Directed by Denis McCready, who photographed the city in April and May 1996, this project will showcase the work of the few photographers who stayed or came to Sarajevo after the reintegration of the city 19 March 1996, covering the first year of healing and rebuilding. With the collaboration of local artists and writers, this project seeks to capture the spirit of renewal and hope that permeated the city after its liberation from 44 months of siege.

The project is envisioned as a multimedia project with:

  • A large scale photo exhibit featuring rarely-seen work paired with newly collected testimonials of residents of Sarajevo.
  • An exhibit catalog supplemented with essays by local and international writers.
  • A feature documentary film codirected by Denis McCready and a local director.
  • A legacy oral history library of testimonials at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (this segment is already confirmed and will start in the fall of 2024).

We are currently searching for the photographers to discuss their participation.
